Research Focus/Background:
Gillian Hayes is the Kleist Professor of Informatics with courtesy appointments in computer science, education, and pediatrics at the University of California Irvine. She leads the CERES network with Candice Odgers and spends the rest of her time designing and evaluating technologies to support people in taking control of their health and learning data and technologies.
Problem/goals to address as part of CERES: Despite rapid and impressive advances, there remain substantial accessibility challenges and opportunities for learning and health technologies for youth. In particular, she is interested in developing inclusive design approaches that engage families, children, and educators together.
Location of Research Projects: United States, Mexico, South Africa
When Not Working: She’s usually doing costume design for children’s theatre, trying to herd two kids and a rowdy puppy, or pondering home renovation.
